How well do you know your BITS? -

Updated: Dec 5, 2023

And how can the ‘’just in case wee’’ be doing you more harm than good.

You are about to leave to head out for the day and you’ve been to the toilet already, but just in case; you go again.

I'll put my hand up and say I have done this many times. I yell out to the kids ‘’Boys, go to the toilet before we go, even if you don’t need to’’.

Yep, I seem to have done all the things I since learnt not to do. Therefore, I am sharing this with you. I want young girls, young women and older women to know that there are ways to grow up without worrying about if you are going to wet yourself at any given moment.

As I head towards my 40’s I am learning so much more of what can happen to our bodies if we do not care for them with delicacy. I’ve had two babies (who are 14 and 10) and knowing that I’m still classified as post-natal is something others would not agree with.

Here’s the thing, once you’ve had a baby, no matter how little or long ago, our bodies are forever in this stage. Its how we recover and build from this stage that is key.

As a collective, if us women all new the ins and outs of our reproductive system, our pelvic floors and how the changes that happen through the different cycles of our life affected us, we would all be better off for it.

A certain type of shame is surrounding these topics for some unforeseen reason, so speaking openly and honestly about it all can seem daunting. We have NO reason at all to feel shame, be embarrassed or hold back about any changes we aren’t sure of.

Ask questions, no doubt someone else is hanging for someone else to ask.

Start the conversation and let’s talk Prolapse, incontinence, DRAM amongst other pelvic floor issues.

When the stats say that 50% of post-natal women will experience pro-lapse, this is a conversation we should not be tiptoeing around. I am so grateful to be able to share my knowledge with you and be part of the conversation starting.

Let's be proud to say the words Vagina, Uterus, Prolapse, incontinence; and well all the words that we have been made to feel insecure about!
